Simple and easy way to secure your WiFi connection

Simple and easy way to secure your WiFi connection

It is really important to ensure that your Wi-Fi network remains secure at home. There are a few simple and easy to perform steps that you can do to make your WiFi secure.

Open the router setup page

Go to your web browser and type "192.168.1.1" to access. From there, enter your correct username and password in the appropriate boxes and press Enter. You can find your user name and password in the user manual of your router. Some routers also have their manual available on Google.

Create a unique password

Create a new, unique and personalized password for your router that nobody can guess. Do not save a generic or standard password for your WiFi router. Also don't forget to change your password every few months.

Change Network SSID Name-

Changing your NETWORK SSID name would help because it helps others to know that it is not a standard network and that it might be secure. Do not store your family names, telephone numbers or home addresses as your SSID names.

Network encryption

This is an important task. There is a multitude of codings that are available. In the latest routers, WPA2 is the safest and WEP the least secure. Choose your coding accordingly.

Filter PC Mac addresses

A Mac address is a built-in address in the network equipment of your device. It is similar to an IP address, except that it cannot be changed. For more protection, you can add Mac addresses from all your devices to your Wi-Fi network. To do this, search for the Mac addresses of your devices. On the PC, use the command prompt and type "ipconfig / all". You will see your Mac address under the name 'Physical address'. In your phone you will find your Mac address under network settings. Easily add these Mac addresses to the management settings of your Wi-Fi router. Now only these devices have access to your WiFi.

Reduce the range of your WiFi

The easiest way to do that is to place the router in a shoe box under the bed or wrap the router around the antennas. In the same way you can also change the mode of your Wi-Fi router to 802.11g instead of another mode.

Upgrade your WiFi software

This is also important because with new updates you also get new security updates for your router. Check your current firmware version by visiting "192.168.1.1" and checking it in the management setting or dashboard.
